The following article will go through the installation steps to successfully install LANDesk 9.0 on a x64 Windows Server R2 2008 server.

Prerequire: Disable Firewall, or activate and configure Firewall for LANDesk :

NOTE: The only version of Windows Server 2008 that is supported is the x64 R2 2008 Server.

NOTE: do not forget that in Microsoft:

Install(option A) + Install(option B) is not equal to Install(option A+option B)

So if you forget some option you will have to make it again from scratch!!!

The pre-requisites are different than in Windows Server 2003, and this article will walk through step by step in getting the right options selected.

Browse to the location where the LANDesk Core Server installation files have been extracted, and run the Autorun.exe. The following window will come up:

*The yellow highlighted option to include the "Automated Patch Process" is optional. By selecting it, a version of LANDesk Process Manager that enables automated patch notification approval and deployment will install on your core. This can be installed on a secondary server as well if you would like to minimize what is installed on your core server.

Select the option to install the Core server and click the Continue button.

The server will check and see that IIS is not installed, and will prompt to install IIS.

On the Windows 2008 server, go to Start | Server Manager.

The Windows Server Manager console will open. Choose the option under Roles.

Select Web Server (IIS).

On selecting this, the following window will open.

Select the "Add Required Features" button.

On the Select Server Roles, choose the Application Server check box.

On selecting this box, the following window will open.

Click the "Add Required Features" button.

On the Select Server Roles screen, choose Next.

Click Next on the Select Server Roles window. This will take you to the next section which is an informational page on the Introduction to Application Server.

Click Next. This leads to the Select Role Services menu. Select the Web Server (IIS) Support checkbox.

After selecting this, the following window will open for the required dependencies.

Click the "Add Required Role Services" button.

After this, select the COM+ Network Access checkbox.

After these options have been selected, click the Next button. This leads to the Introduction to IIS page, which is seen below.

Click Next.

Under the Role Services section, the following items must be checked under Application Development: ASP, CGI, Server Side Includes.

Scrolling down to the bottom of the page, the IIS 6 Management Compatibility options must be selected.

After making these selections, click Next.

The Confirm Installation Selections screen will include a summary of the changes to be made to the server.

The installation progress will be shown in the screen.

After installation completes, the Installation Results will be shown. Everything must have a "Installation Succeeded" as the status.

After installing the IIS Server and its components, there are still several other prerequisites that must be installed.

Running the Core Server install requirements "Check Again" shows the following requirements that are missing:

The .Net 3.5 SP1 Framework can be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Download Center.

NOTE: When running the installer ALWAYS uncheck the "Always ask before opening this file" checkbox. Failure to do so will leave the files as blocked by AES protection, and will cause problems with the LANDesk Software application.

After running the .Net 3.5 SP1 installer run the Autorun.exe "Check Again" button to verify successful detection.

The following Prerequisites should be detected.

The Web Services Enhancements 3.0 can be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center.

After installing the Web Services Enhancements 3.0, run the prerequisite checker.

Running the Core Server install requirements "Check Again" shows the following requirements that are missing:

To install the Monitoring/Alerts (SNMP) on the Windows 2008 server, go to Start | Server Manager.

In the Server Manager console, click on Features and then on the Add Features button on the right hand side of the window.

The Select Features window will open, with checklist of available features that can be installed.

Scroll down to SNMP Services and check the box.

Selecting Next will show the Confirmation screen.

Click Install. The progress window will show the progress of the installation.

After successful installation of the SNMP Services, the Results window will show the status of the installation.

After installing the Microsoft SNMP Services, run the Prerequisite checker to verify installation and detection.

After installation, the Prerequisite check should pass and allow installation of the LANDesk Core Server.

After the Prerequisites have passed, click the Continue button.

You will now be able to complete the installation of LANDesk Management Suite 9.0.
